Milos

Looking for advice on Milos for next June. I would love to hear about your experience with accommodations and getting around the island. How is getting around the island? Is renting a bicycle doable? Would it be better to rent a scooter?
Thanks

Hi Charles, We traveled to Milos as part of our Greece trip last year and absolutely loved it! We did Mykonos (too touristy) and Milos along with Athens. We stayed in Pollonia the fishing village as opposed to being in town. We now compare all trips to Milos. If you want to stay on the water I can not say enough positive things about Nefeli Sunset Studios. The pictures you see are exactly what you get and the rates are very reasonable. Roula and her husband were wonderful hosts. If you want to get around the island, you will need a car and Roula can arrange that for you but in Pollonia, you can walk from the Nefeli to a very quaint fishing village with stores and restaurants. We also rented a scooter to tour the island and had a wonderful time. Please feel free to email me if you want more details.

Charles: What Michelle says is 100% accurate. I have travelled the greek islands on numerous occasions and Milos is a good one. The Sunset Studios are a wonderful place to stay. You could not get better hosts. Strongly suggest you rent a car or scooter to see the island. If you want to stay there, you must book very early. It is a very popular spot. Bob Toronto ON

I thing I forgot to mention about renting a scooter in Milos. My husband had to rent the scooter because the place we rented from required proof of a motorcycle license and luckily we had one. Also, some car rental agencies in Greece, require an international driver's license which can be obtained for $15 from any AAA office.

Thank you so much for your help and advice. We are low budget travelers and have never rented a car, we've always used public transportation. In 1985 I rented a scooter on some of the islands (the last time I was in Greece), but I see now that one must have a motorcycle license. I don't think we will be able to get those, so it sounds that we will have to rent a car. I am having difficulty determining the approximate price of that. How much did you pay? Also, I have planned to spend 6 nights in Oia, Santorini, followed by 9 nights in Milos, then 3 in Athens. I am relying in part on my experience in '85; however, I was there in late September. This trip is planned for late June and early July. I have read that Santorini is packed with people, especially during the day from cruise ships. Is it unbearable? Should we limit our time there? Do you have any suggestions? Also, did you visit Kimolos?
