Two part question: Are high winds causing cancellation of flights to Santorini a problem in the middle of Oct? We will be staying until the 18th--will many restaurants, stores, tours be closing down by then? Thanks for any help with this!
I don't think flights will be cancelled due to weather unless there is some sort of torrential downpour. I had a flight delayed 2 hours once because of high winds, but not cancelled.
Yes to the 2nd question... many many shops an cafes will be closing down... if you stay in Oia, it may feel rather "closed" by then. Consider Fira or Firostephani if you want a livelier feel. At least you will be able to visit Oia for sunset without the huge hordes that cram the walkways there during other seasons.
Personallly, I find the sunsets just as lovely from other parts of the island. the Oia sunset is oversold.
Thanks, Janet for the info. We are fortunately staying in Fira at the Hotel Keti, so it sounds like there should be enough restaurants, shops etc still open to keep us busy. We will hike to Oia.
