Metro closed @ Athens Airport.

I just found out that the Athens Metro is shut down from the airport to the city. I plan on arriving on April 4th, 2009 Any suggestions on the best way to make it to Syntagma square? Which would be quickest, bus or suburban rail line? Is it multiple transfers with either option? How much does a typical taxi from the airport cost? I'm arrriving in the early afternoon...

any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

The Airport Express Bus #95 leaves the airport for Syntagma every half hour 24/7/365. The fare is 3.2 euro and the trip takes 45 minutes in light traffic, up to 90 minutes in rush hour. The Suburban Railway is a good second option. Take it to the Neratziotissa Station, buy a Green Line ticket to Omonia Square and transfer there to the Red Line to Syntagma.

Expect a taxi to run you 35 euro plus baggage charges if the driver has to handle your bags or put them in the trunk.

I'm actually in Athens at the moment. Lee is right (as usual) with his 2 options and his costs and times. There is a third option which is to take the shuttle bus which is replacing the metro between the airport and ethniki amyna station.

Having said that I think the express bus is your best bet, unless you want to spring for a taxi. The express is frequent, cheap and goes right where you want to go.

I got a taxi in, as I arrived late in the evening, but plan on getting the bus back.

Have a great time.
