Meteora/Delphi tour from Athens worth the time?

Going to Athens next month and have 3.5 days before getting on a cruise. There is a 2 day tour to Meteora & Delphi and wanted to know if Meteora is worth the time away from Athens?? Thanks in advance!

Jen. - Meteora is SPECTACULAR!! I would advise you to definitely do it. In Athens you can take the single line train from Piraeus up to La Plaka, see Monastiraki Market, the shops of La Plaka , and walk on up to The Acropolis. One day will do all of that without stressing so, why not see the splendour of Meteora. If your cruise was going to stop in Volos then you could do it from there but not too many ships are stopping in Volos.

Have a Great Time, Greg

I think each place is certainly worth your time & effort. Meteora has such spectacular geological formations with the monasteries on top. It's all very beautiful.

Even now Delphi retains its mystical essence. Visiting there was one of my favoriate Greek experiences. I think you will be glad you took the time to see both of these places.

Thank you so much Greg and Janis! We've decided to go ahead and take the tour. I know RS preaches to travel as though you will return to that place but reality is it will be unlikely and I thought this could be a highlight. Thanks for your feedback!

I've heard that half of the Delphi site is closed due to a rock slide in early October. I don't have any more information, so you should check when you get to Athens to see if it has been reopened yet.

I just returned from an independent tour of Greece. Meteora is spectacular! We hired a taxi to see 4 of the monasteries while spending 2 nights in Kalambaka. At Delphi we did discover that 1/2 of the site is closed due to the rock slide. A sign was posted stating this, but we didn't see it before we visited the site, so it was disappointing. According to people who live in Delphi, it will probably be closed a long time! We did get into the "postcard" view of Delphi, so that made me feel better. Also, the museum there is wonderful.
