Marble House or Hotel Phaedra

After extensive research on very budget hotels/b&bs in athens, I've narrowed it down to these two. Marble House is 45e a night (+ 9e AC fee per day) and Phaedra is 65e a night. Which do you recommend? I know Phaedra is closer to the Acropolis but not that much - is worth the extra 11 e a night? Thanks!

I've stayed fairly often in the Phaedra, and it's a clean and comfortable for the price. It's also in a very good position, at the top of Plaka (the area where most tourists stay) and has really good views of the Acropolis from most rooms.

I've never stayed in the Marble House but know the area quite well. I'd say it's around a fifteen to twenty minute walk from there to the top of Plaka, so you are significantly less central.

Having said that I like the area between the Marble House and Plaka, and the walk gives you more of a sense of Athens as a working city than if you stay in Plaka and do the sites.

So, it depends how crucial the extra 11 euros are to you, and how central you want to be. On balance, assuming you are going to be in Athens for a fairly short length of time, and don't know the city, I would probably go for the Phaedra.

BTW, if you are really trying to spend as little as possible have you looked at Athens Studios? They have a couple of places at 39 euros. I've not stayed in either of these but have used the agency and they are fine

Have a good trip. Athens is great and I'm sure you'll enjoy it wherever you stay.

We stayed at the Hotel Phaedra and had a very good experience there. Loved the views. We had an inexpensive room with a private bathroom that was actually located outside of the room, but we were the only ones who had a key and used it. I would stay there again if we go back to Athens.

We stayed at the Marble House last September and found it well worth the money. Its an uphill walk to the Acropolis but its in a quiet cul de sac, fairly close to the Metro and there is a supermarket about 2 blocks away which we found very convenient.
