We are stopping here in November/09 and not taking a shore excursion. Has anyone been there? What should we do around the city for sights to see?

Kim, we were in Marmaris last November. It's a delightful port. We took a shuttle bus from the ship into town. The bazaar is wonderful, albeit rather touristy. But you can find some lovely shops (check out the textiles, rugs, and evil eyes). Other friends went to the shops you can see from the ship and bought Turkish carpets.
We didn't get to the castle, primarily because I have problems walking. But it's very near the bazaar and the tourist office (where the shuttle dropped us).
Just be careful drinking the local drink--yogurt with salt and water. It created LOTS of problems for a week!
