My husband and I and our daughter will be traveling to these cities in July. We'd like reasonable, clean accommodations close to transportation connections. We'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
I'm headed to the Cloister hotel in Prague and the Hotel Astoria in Budapest in several weeks. However, I'm not quite sure what you mean by transportation connections. Often, hotels by the train station aren't that nice--tried that in Hamburg and found ourselves next tto the World of Sex shop. Also, in Gdansk (wonderful city) the train station is quite a distance from where you'd like to be staying. Accomodations in Eastern Europe can be pretty shabby, so I wouldn't get too excited about a low price. Just look at Rick Steve's Eastern Europe book (wouldn't plan a trip to those parts without it), pick out a hotel, and you'll be fine.
Oh, boy, do I ever second the advice of the last poster- the hotels near train stations are often a bit shady. From Rick Steves' book, I stayed in Pension U Medviku (or something like that...). There might be nicer places in town, but this was more than acceptable... and I really liked the beery atmosphere of the restaurant downstairs.
