Hi- we'll wind up in Ljubjania in late May, and then need to get up to Dublin. Any suggestions re: a strategy? We'll have come down from the north, so wouldn't mind doing something that brought us on to the Adriatic coast.
thanks!

Easiest way to get to Dublin from LJU and see the Adriatic would be to pop on down to Treiste or Venice. (If you have the time, why not Venice?).
From LJU you can head down to the coast in about 2 hours, and stay at one of the little Adriatic spa cities: Piran, Portorose, etc. Nice, inexpensive (comparatively), and the water's beautiful.
Then hop on down to Trieste or Venice, another hour or two for Trieste, 2 more for Venice. Ryanair services both places, and you can get to Dublin cheaply and easily. (Though both airports are a bit out of the city. under 1hr).
On your way to the coast, stop at the caves in Skocjan, Postojana and/or Predjama. Well worth it.
Train and bus schedules are pretty skimpy in Slovenia these days (and tend to leave at 2AM from LJU to the south). You might want to think about renting a car, and taking it to the coast, or the border, then making the quick train/bus jaunt to Trieste.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have questions!
