Lithuania: staying in Nida and Vilnius. Recommendations?

We're travelling to Lithuania at the end of next summer. Nida, on the Baltic coast, is gorgeous but hard to find rooms on line. We want to stay in the old town of Vilnius so we can walk...money is not an object for either stay. We are bringing our 2-year-old daughter. Thanks for the help!

In Vilinus, we stayed at the Scandic hotel which used to be part of the Hilton hotel chain. It was very central and walking distance to most of the sites. The train station was a little further out if I remember and we took a tram to get there. This was for a day trip out to Trakai which I would highly recommend.

The Scandic was a nice hotel, though not luxurious. Sorry I can't comment on Nida.

I stayed at Domus Maria, which is a converted monastery that now serves as the guest house for the adjacent parish church. The rooms were pretty basic, but had all the necessities (including private shower and toilet), and you get the usual European breakfast spread. I don't remember the cost, but it was pretty cheap. Domus Maria sits about a 10 minute walk from the train station and about a 15 minute walk up the hill from Cathedral Square.

I 2nd Domus Maria --- simple & clean, beds were hard, breakfast was plenty but healthy. Management was extremely helpful, polite, & friendly. They gave good recommendations for restaurants & excellent directions on how to get out of the city by car (& you will need that!). The hotel was a 1 minute walk to the Gates of Dawn. Eat the cuccumbers anywhere in Lithuania-- best tasting ones I ever had. The only 2 travel books you should get for Lithuania are Bradt's & www.inyourpocket.com. Why? Bradt gives accurate descriptions of the countryside. www.inyourpocket.com is accurate & it's free online. Email me if you have any more questions.

We stayed at the Ramada Hotel in Vilnius and loved it.

I would also suggest a day trip to Trakai!
