My wife and I are planning a trip to Latvia and Lithuania, leaving from (and returning to) Madrid, Spain around August 1st for about 9-10 days. I am especially interested in seeing some of the places where my grandparents were born and raised in these two countries at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. I have been reading that renting a car is probably the best option, which we may do, but that can be stressful abroad.
I'd appreciate any advice regarding getting around, good, affordable "genealogical" tour guides, etc. I'm interested in visiting the capital cities of Riga and Vilnius, but also wish to visit/explore the areas from which my relatives hailed (Tukums, Kaunus, and a former shtetl about 3 hours by car from Kaunus, etc.)
Thanks in advance for any information you're able to share!
