Just wondering if anyone has traveled from Prague by train to Brno and/or Letovice. My dad spent his teenage years in letovice, and although there are no living relatives there, I would like to take my son there. We will probably only have one day and don't want to spend the night there. Is this a do-able day trip and if so, what is the best way? Bus or train? Is there a language barrier or is there any English spoken?

It is doable. Train takes little over two and half hours from Prague. There are several direct trains. Most express trains between Prague and Brno don't stop in Letovice. You can find your schedule on Deutsche Bahn website. Letovice is certainly not town which is often visited by tourists from America. Your best bet for English speakers would be young people. English is now taught at school. You can visit Letovice chateau. After the trip if you don't want to hurry back to Prague you can go to nearby Brno. Plenty to see there. The most popular caves in the Czech Republic are very close to Letovice. Google Punkva caves.
