Lesvos, Greece

Hi, I enjoyed a Medieterrian Cruise last year and went through the Greek Islands. I fell in love with the Cyclade islands of Santorini and Mykonos...and hoping to go back this year. I have access to a villa in Lesvos, Greece for a week and look forward to exploring and experiencing the Greek culture in depth. We are hoping to plan a quick trip over to Santorini and/or Mykonos when we arrive in Athens. Any suggestions as we thought a charter flight from Athens to both islands to explore over two days then back to AThens for our flight to Lesvos?? Looking for any suggestions, recommendations. Cheers, Kelly

Please clarify: are you thinking of a private charter from Athens to Santorini and Mykonos, then back to Athens for a commercial flight to Lesvos? Also, when were you thinking of going to Greece?

I don't know about charter flights, but you could use a combination of commercial flights and ferries: Fly into Athens and then directly to Santorini, staying overnight. The next day, take a ferry to Mykonos and stay overnight. The next day, fly from Mykonos back to Athens, and on to Lesvos. On Lesvos, you could catch your breath! Where is your villa on Lesvos? I'm a big fan of this island. It's a large island with lots to see (and driving is easy), so you will probably want to rent a car. Be sure to bring an International Driver's Permit. Depending on what time your return flight leaves Athens for Canada, you may need to fly back from Lesvos to Athens a day early and spend a night there. Check Aegean and Olympic airlines for flights between Athens & the islands.

Hi, Thank you for your input and I am sorry I have not responded sooner! We have a night in Athens and then flight to Lesvos and the villa is in the northern part in Gavatha...so looking forward to experiencing the authentic Greek cuture! Any recommendations for restaurants/attractions, we do have a car rental so look forward to exploring the island! Cheers,

Pretty much everything you need to know is on Matt Barrett's Lesvos website;
http://www.lesvos.com/ It's a large island, and you won't want to spend your whole week driving, but some of my favorite places near you are Sigri, Skala Erresos and Molyvos. I really like the Gulf of Gera (or Yera ... you'll find multiple spellings for many places!). There's an ouzo factory in Plomari, and very long beach in Vatera. Be sure to try a thermal bath. Have fun!

Thank you and I have printed off all the information from Matt Barrett's website as has been a fountain of information! Thank you so much and I figure we will stay on the northern part of the island and perhaps a day trip to the south to enjoy a beach etc., cannot wait to enjoy the culture and authentic experience!!! Any restaurant recommendations?

Good beaches on the west side, too. Vatera beach is miles of sandy beach, and Skala Eressos is a gorgeous little beach town. The restaurants are all small and family owned. If we find one we like, we tend to return often & get to know them a bit. You will be amazed at how inexpensive the food is. And fresh, and delicious. Be sure to have lots of Greek salads. The tomatoes are fabulous. Gyros make a good lunch. For dinner, on Lesvos especially, people tend to share everything they order. The food is served as soon as it is ready, in no particular order. So you can be adventuresome and try many foods. Lots of zucchini & eggplant, and freshly caught fish, and octopus. We'll be back on Lesvos in mid-September ourselves. I'm getting hungry just thinking about that food!
