Late October/early November trip to Greece

My husband and I would like to plan a late fall trip to Greece but are concerned that the weather will not be good for outside activities like visiting the ruins, enjoying a stroll through the villages, etc. We will have one week, would fly in and out of Athens and want to go to Nafplion and Hydra. I realize that no one can predict the weather but would like comments from someone who has been to Greece in late fall.

As you say there are no guarantees, but the chances are you will have at least some good days, and you could well be lucky throughout.

The last few years have seen late warm spells in Greece and it's been nice right through to the end of November. In fact we go regularly in December and have had some great weather then the last five years or so.

Have a good trip

Thanks for your reply. Besides the weather, will sites, restaruants, hotels be open? After reading other comments, it seems that many things close in October. We don't plan to go to the islands. We plan to rent a car and drive from Athens to Nafplion. We will use it as a base to visit surrounding sites.

As Kim says everything will be open. It's only on the islands, and smaller resort towns, that places shut in the off season.

A couple of other thoughts about Nafplio. There are plenty of good restaurants in the old town but if you fancy something off the beaten track I can really recommend the Pseiras which is about a ten minute walk from the town square

It's a really old style family run taverna.

The last time we were in Nafplio we stayed slightly outside the main town at the Anthemion. Really nice if you would like somewhere quiet and don't mind a 15 minute walk or short drive into town

Mycenae and Epidavrus are great sites and easily done from Nafplio. A couple of closer, and less visited places are the amphitheatre in Argos and Tiryns 'of the mighty walls' (according to Homer). You'll pass Tiryns as you drive into Nafplio. It's worth knowing that as well as the main site there is an interesting beehive tomb set back in the countryside. It's down the road which the entrance to Tiryns is in. Look out for a sign at the Tiryns entrance.

I'm sure you'll have a great trip. We've not finalised our plans yet but I wouldn't be surprised if we found ourselves back in Nafplio for Christmas or New Year.

My daughter and I are also flying into Athens 13 Oct and on to Santorini the next day for 4 nights. Then back to Athens for 3 nights, get rental car and onto Nafplio for 3 nights. This is our first trip so there will be alot of firsts. I have been checking weather and I think the weather should be in the 70's. I appreciate the info on dining in Nafplio, it sounds like my kind of place.
