Last minute booking of flights from Izmir to Istanbul

I'll be finishing up RS's Turkey Tour in October in Izmir and wondered if I can wait until then to book a plane ticket back to Istanbul. I really like the idea of keeping my options open but wouldn't really like to pay a lot more for that flexibility. Also, what's the best way to book with one of the local airlines (Atlas, Onurair, Pegasus)? Thanks!

If you look at skyscanner.com you'll see that there are so many flights each day from Izmir to Istanbul that waiting til the last minute shouldn't be a problem. On the other hand, if you want to lock in the lowest price, you might want to book ahead. Just book your tickets through the airlines' own websites. They all have an English language option.

We used AltasJet but booked our tickets online before we left. The booking was easy and the tickets were pretty inexpensive. You could do a "practice" booking for a few days from now to compare the availability and cost to dates booked in nearer the time of your trip. Hope that makes sense!

We recently booked a flight on Atlas Jet Izmir to Istanbul for 72 TRY each for travel on 25 Sept. Not sure if you'll save anything booking last minute. Booking online with Atlas was easy.

I also booked an Atlas Jet flight online for the end of my September 20 Turkey tour. It was just as easy as booking online with a US airline. My ticket was 74 TL, including all taxes and fees.

I flew from Izmir to Istanbul on June 12 (I think) after the RS tour and we flew on Turkish Airlines. Our RS guide flew the same route the same morning using a different local airline and she paid just about half what we paid. The RS tour bus took all those who wanted to go to the Izmir airport on the morning the tour was over but left Izmir right after breakfast, about 9 AM. We were told ahead of time not to book any flights before 10 AM and ours was at 10:30 which was OK but rushed. If I had it to do over I would book a flight on another airline with a departure time of 11:00. I sure enjoyed our 14 day Turkey tour and I hope all of you will do the same. The expensive balloon ride was, as my wife put it, an event of a lifetime. PM me with any questions,
