My friend and I are trying to find a possible way to travel from Lake Bled to the Makarska Riviera with a stop in Plitvice Lakes National Park. We won't be renting a car. Has anyone been to both places?

Bus or train to Ljubljana. Train to Zagreb. Bus to Plitvice (don't shortchange this stop - I spent two nights and could have stayed longer). Not clear from Lonely Planet whether you have to take the bus back to Zagreb to get a bus to Makarska, or whether you could go on to Zadar and get one there. Or you could take the bus to Zadar and a ferry to Split (definitely worth a stop, as are Zagreb and Ljubljana) and a bus on to Makarska. Train timetables: bahn.de
