I'm planning to go to Bled, Slovenia for a few hours at the beginning of January. Most of what I've read seems to be about trips in the summer. How are hiking conditions now in the winter? Are some of the outdoor options closed?
We're going there in early March, plan to possibly ski nearby in the Julian Alps. There's a path around the lake that the guide book says takes a couple of hours, as well as some short, signposted trails. One No. 6, from the southwest corner of the lake up to the summit of Velika Osojnica (756m) is steep and in winter that could be a challenge. That hike is supposed to take about 3 hours, probably in summer.
I've been to Bled in Feburary. Most of the guests were there for the skiing. We were there for the baths. It was beautiful. The town was pretty much closed down. We stayed at the Golf Hotel which had great pools that overlooked the lake. If you're into hiking this winter is way too snowy to hike in the mountains. But if you go to the low lands of Slovenia you can get some hiking in. We stayed in Terme Dolenjske Toplice, which is south west of the capital. There was a lot of nice walks that was marked by the resort.
