Kusadasi to Samos, Samos to Athens

Does anyone out there know about making this excursion. I am thinking of taking Rick's Turkey in 13 Days Tour, then traveling on to Greece. I would like to know about booking ferry connections. Should I book far in advance, or can I wing it?

Well, it depends a bit on your time of year and how many days you have alloted. Ferries are limited in the off season (Nov.-April) so that may dictate your Schedule. Other wise, if you are not planning on spending more than a night on Samos, or stopping at other islands, then I would suggest flying to Athens from Samos, you will get there in half a day, as opposed to most or more of a day by ferry. For the Kusadasi-Samos ferry, get your ticket when you get there. If you take the ferry to Athens, again get it when you get there, unless you are travelling in August or Easter. For Air travel, try Aegean Air, for that you will need to book ahead, but it is very easy compared to the Ferry.

We just returned from a Rick's Turkey tour. The tour guide took care of making arrangements for those going on to Samos. He set up a meeting with those travelers and the ferry people. Our guide arranged for a bus to take them to the Ferry right after breakfast on the last day of the tour. I would call the tour office and confirm that this will be the case for your tour also. They were very good about getting tour members to their next destination. In our case a bus took us to Izmir airport. There was no charge.
