We'll be finishing up the 13-day RS tour Oct7, and are leaving Istanbul on Oct 16. We're staying a couple of days at a flat in Kusadasi immediately after, then plan on meandering up the coast to Istanbul, arriving at least the day before our flight. We should have had 3 extra days in Istanbul before the tour starts.
Any suggestions?
I took an enjoyable cooking class at "Cooking Alaturka" www.cookingalaturka.com just before the 7-day Istanbul RS tour last September. It was a 2-minute walk from the RS hotel in the Sulthanamet. Wish I'd had time to eat at the Asitane restaurant behind Chora Church - came highly recommended from the 4-Seasons Hotel food and wine exec (whom I met at the cooking class) and was also featured on No Reservations (TV show).
