In his book on Prague and the Czech Republic Rick Steves says to consider making the 15 mile hike between Lany and Krivoklat. I can't find any other information on this in other guidebooks or on the web. Does anyone know how strenuous this is - is a true hike, or just a long walk on a good path? Is this a doable day trip from Prague - from Prague to Lany in the morning, hike to Krivoklat, see the castle, and then return to Prague that evening?
In 2001 i drove through Lany to (almost) Krivoklat. Its not a long walk on a gentle path. I recall it was very hilly and 15 miles would be strenuous. A Full day. It was also in summer and quite Hot ! Krivoklat castle is , however, a Must-See !!! I regret not seeing it. Unfortunately, i drove my car into a field to take some photos and backing out i hi-centered it on a rock i could not see due to the high grass. The rest of the day was consumed trying to flag someone down,,,waiting for a tow truck and being towed back to Kladno.
Hi! Did you end up doing this hike, or has anyone else on the board? I'm planning a trip to Prague next spring and would like to some hiking at that point. Like you, I was intrigued by Rick's refernce in his book but haven't been able to find much else on it. A google search yielded a blog post by someone who appears to have taken the same route in 5hrs, but that's all I've been able to find!
