I will be arriving in Krakow by train, are the taxi drivers at the train stn as bad as they are in Prague? I can arrange a transfer with my hotel from the train stn to Krakow and I am wondering if this is worthwhile, any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
I don't know anything about the cab drivers, but if you're staying in the old town, it's only about a 10-15 minute walk from the station.
Yeah the train/bus station is in the city center. The taxis in Krakow don't have a reputation of ripping off tourists like Prague. I used taxis a few times and no problems they all use the meter and are typically very modern Mercedes sedans.
Seriously, it's a 5-minute walk from the station to the park-like edge of the oval-shaped old town, and another 5 minute walk to the central square.
Unless you are infirm or lugging 100lb of luggage, it makes little sense not to use your feet.
I don't think I'd bother with the taxi when the old town and the majority of the tourist hotels are so close. However, the taxis were all fair for me and I even arranged a car and driver to go out to Aushwitz for a very reasonable amount so that I could leave and arrive on my own schedule.
