Has anyone driven in this area? How are the roads for traveling between these cities? Is it better to drive a rental car or take a train and hire a driver in the region?

I haven't been to Sanok, but I've driven in the countryside around Krakow. The roads are generally in decent shape, but there are few highways. I rarely use a GPS, but this is one area of Europe where I would recommend one.
