Krakow to Budapest

my husband and I will be travelling to Eastern Europe at the end of May. We have 3 open days between Krakow and Budapest, any suggestions?

If you haven't been to Vienna, it's very easy to get to. It's 3 hours from Budapest (Keleti station). From Vienna it's a six hour trip to Krakow. Vienna is certainly worth 3 nights. You could even sneak in a trip to Bratislava. Outside of Budapest, the only interesting town is usually Eger, which you can easily day trip to. If you've been to Vienna and don't want to go back, spend more time in Krakow area and day trip out. Or if you can arranget the schedule, go early to Krakow (9 hour train from Budapast) and go north in Poland to Gdansk. One of the best undiscovered gems in Eastern Europe. It's six hours north from Krakow. Warsaw is nice too, but only worth a day for the old town cneter and museums.
