Last month while in Krakow I followed Rick's recommendation on hiring Andrew Durman as a our driver for 2 days. He picked us up at the airport, showed us around Krakow, to Pope John Paul's home town, to Auschwitz and to Zakopane. There was no way we could have seen everything with out him. He spoke excellent English, is a gentleman, and is punctual. His services are an excellent value and he truly gives one a good feel for the local culture with his knowledge of Polish history and current events. And he's fun to be with. When I return one day, I will use him again. I don't always see eye to eye on all of Rick Steves' recommendations but he's right on with this one.
That's great Jim. I'd be interested in hearing how much you paid and how many people he can accommodate. We are a family of 5 going to Krakow in
April. I'd love to hear more about your trip. Thanks, Lucy.
Yes, I agree, prices, please!!! We'll be in Krakow next year and this may be worth doing..... Thanks, Jim!
Here is his website: http://www.tour-service.pl/index.html, Email him and tell him where you want to go and he'll get back to you with a price. I did cross check his prices vs. his competition (there are other drivers for hire in Krakow) and he was very competitive.
Four of us used a taxi driver to drive around Gdansk and Malbork for a day. He charged us 150 Euro for the day. We thought we could do a little better but weren't able to get him below 150. The driver dropped us where we wanted to go and waited for us to return. His English was so-so but he had a great attitude and was very accomodating.
