Korcula; worth it?

We are traveling by car, from Dubrovnik, to Mostar, then up to Split. We aren't sure if it will be worth the effort to park the car, take the ferry, and stay in Korcula for one night before returning to the car and driving to Split. If we spend time in Dubrovnik, Kotor, Mostar, is Korcula a need-to-see spot? Thx.

I recently traveled in the Adriatic with Rick's tour and I found Korcula, the city, just fabulous! It's small, walkable, beautiful sights and dining on the water is most memorable. There are quite a few small museums and everyone is very personable. It's one of my favorite memories.

Elizabeth:

I agree wholeheartedly with T.J. - it is a beautiful city.

However, you might regard it as a smaller version of Dubrovnik, and not think it worth the diversion.

We visited in May of 2006, and found that the tourist season had not really heated up. We were often alone in some of the water-front restaurants. Of course, we tend to eat earlier than many Europeans!

We stayed at the soba (B & B without the breakfast) of Rezi and Andro Depolo, a Rick Steves recommendation. Their home is on the waterfront just north of the walled portion of the city. It isn't fancy, but Rezi was very helpful, and our balcony overlooked the palm-tree-lined street and the city - very sweet.

I agree with the other 2 postings. We also stayed with Rezi for 2 nites, went to all the places you are going to and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Korcula. It was very relaxing and I would go back again.

I agree with the other posters as well--we enjoyed our visit to Korcula but it was in October and things were winding down for the season so it was very quiet. We also stayed in Rezi's sobe--they were very nice and even picked us up from the bus station (we took a bus/ferry from Dubrovnik.) If you decide to go, plan your trip carefully as the ferry doesn't leave from Korcula every day--on the the winter schedule, for example, the ferry only runs 3 times a week. To check the schedule look at the Jadrolinija ferry website. http://www.korculainfo.com/ferries-korcula.htm
