Kasidusi to Istanbul

I'm looking for recommendations about rental cars and driving from Kasidusi to Istanbul over three days in May. Does anyone have experience with this?

I don't have experience making that specific drive. It will probably take a while, but with a decent road map you'll be fine. You might want to pick up a copy of Lonely Planet to give you ideas of where to stay and what to see along the way. I can't recall the company I used when I was last in Izmir (it was a few years ago). I do know that some of the larger car rental companies serve Izmir and Kusadasi (near Selcuk/Ephesus). Avis and Alamo come to mind. You might want to check some of the larger companies' web sites to see if they cover both those areas and Istanbul. I suspect that if you arrange for a one-way rental that you may have to pick up and drop off from an airport on at least one end. Good luck.

Rob, Thanks for the information. I did mean "Kusidasi" and not "Kasidusi." We'll see what we can find with the major companies.

If you check the prices at the major international chains, be sure to factor in one way drop charges; they can often be substantial! We always rent from local Turkish car rental places. Prices are much lower, they seldom charge drop charges, and we've never had any trouble with the vehicles. (They generally aren't as new and shiny as the cars you get from Avis, Autoeurope etc if that matters to you.) Once we rented a car and ended up taking a detour through the mountains on unpaved mountain roads. Somewhere along the way, we lost a hubcap in the process. When we left the car off, we reported the lost hubcap to the rental place. The guy who took our car back just shook his head, said, "Oh, it's only a hubcap. Not to worry..." and we weren't charged anything for it. Can you imagine Avis taking that position?

No, I can't imagine Avis taking that position. Thanks for your input, Jer.
