June Accommodations in Krakow

Euro 2012 will be held in Poland during June when group of 5 adults plan to visit. As a result, am finding accommodations more expensive than expected. Any recommendations? Thank you!

After the World Cup and the Olympics, the European Soccer Championships are the third most most popular sporting event in the world. Weekend matches and the Final are shown live on ABC in the US, the rest on ESPN. So hotels prices will be sky-high during the tournament. Other than postponing your trip, there's no way around it:(

We were planning to travel to Poland in June but because of the Eurocup decided to skip Poland this trip and travel to Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.

FYI, none of the matches are being held in Krakow, so you're probably seeing summer prices, inflated a little just because of Euro 2012. Match venues are in Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdansk, and Ponzan, plus four sites in Ukraine. A pretty long train ride for a day commute to a game. Because you have five, you might look for an apartment instead of hotel.

While it's true that Krakow isn't a venue, it's not a stretch that a lot of fans will be hanging out there between matches when they are out sightseeing....it's Poland's top attraction.

Last October we stayed in the hotel just by the train station for four nights. The cost was around a thousand dollars. If we hadn't stayed at a some less expensive hotels in eastern Europe we wouldn't have been able to stay there. The breakfast was excellent. We saw a lalrge number of tourists heading into the old town area so there must be cheaper hotels there. Since there is a large student population in Krakow I would think there must be less expensive places to stay.

I am not sure if in Krakow will be better than usually, cause during EURO2012 a few football teams will have in Krakow training camps (between matches). It is better to visit Warsaw and other cities on may or on July. If you have any questions about Warsaw, you can contact me ([email protected]).

If you decide to go you might consider the Globtroter (yes, its spelled correctly) Guest House. Its close to the old town square and back in 2009 when we visited it was reasonably priced. Good luck.
