We are signed up for the Eastern Europe Trip September 16 - October 1, 2012. We would like to fly in and out of a convenient "jump city" in Europe that will allow us relatively inexpensive air access to Prague(from Sacramento) for the beginning of the trip. Does anyone have suggestions? Also, should we take ground transport back to Prague to return to our "jump city" or should we try to fly back from Ljubljana's Jož?nik Airport? Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. We are looking at cities like Dublin, Zurich, Madrid, and Frankfurt - and hoping we can stay a few days after the tour in one of these cities.
Are the cities you listed direct flight options available from Sacramento? Personally, I'd pick Frankfurt, just to minimize travel time and to stay in the Eastern Europe theme. I'm taking the same trip in May. I had a hard time finding a good flight schedule out of Ljubljana that got me to the west coast on the last day of the tour. I usually fly through Amsterdam, but due to use of frequent flier tickets, I am flying in to Prague (via JFK) and home from Munich (stopping in Atlanta). On the last day of the tour (day 16) I'm taking the train from Bled to Salzburg, staying overnight, then train to Munich, staying overnight, and flying home.
