My husband and I are traveling for the first time to Prague in early January. Is it very cold that time of year? Are fur coats taboo?
Also, are there special attractions that time of year that we shouldn't miss? Should we hire a private guide or are group tours worthwhile (we don't speak Czech).
Thank you, Joyce
Prague is cold in early January, average temp for the first week in January is 28°, just above freezing during the day and about 24 at night.
Yes it's cold - very cold.
Fur is not taboo. Don't worry about not speaking Czech, English is widely spoken these days in Prague. We've never found the need for a guide, the most helpful people are to be found on the hotel reception desks, they'll tell you all about anything special if you ask them. If you base yourself in either Praha1 or Praha2 you will be in walking distance of all the major tourist attractions. One good guide book is all you need.
Thank you, Al, for your prompt reply. I'm more at ease now. -- Joyce
