I will be in Turkey from 20-25. Looking for where to go to get the most out of the 5 days. Not into looking at piles or rubble or paintings for hours on end. Want to see the country, the people, experience Turkey. I had enough piles of rubble in Athens to last me a lifetime. I am not opposed to travelling beyond turkey either.
I would emphasize Istanbul. It's an amazing place, truly a unique world city. You could easily spend five days there and not exhaust its possibilities.
But we could give you better advice if we had more of an idea of what you like to do. Do you like beaches? Then perhaps the Turquoise Coast would be for you. Like partying? Then Bodrum or Kusadasi would fit. Like hiking in a unique geological area? Then Cappadocia would be a must-see. (Obviously if you aren't interested in ruins, then you can skip Ephesus and Afrodisias.) Want to see a unique take on Islam and some of the finest mosques in Turkey? Then Konya is an unforgettable place. It really all depends on what you are looking for.
Bus travel is a super way to experience non-tourist Turkey. It's incredibly cheap, very efficient, and very Turkish. It also helps to learn a little of the language if you want a truly Turkish experience.
