Itinerary help on 2 options

I am debating 2 differing itineraries. They are: Option 1 Munich Innsbruck Salzburg Vienna Option 2 Munich Prague Budapest Vienna Salzburg
Munich I enjoy photography (landscapes in particular), history, churches, and old buildings. Option 1 would allow more time spent at the sites because of the less travel time. Option 2 cuts out some of the scenic alps but provides more city time in Prague & Budapest. I am not soliciting comments on alternative destinations or how long to stay at each city. I have only been to Italy in the past (and loved it!). It is our 35th annivesary in '13 and I want a special vacation. Our last 3 US vacations have been out west with last year in Yellowstone & The Teton's. (tough to beat the Grand Teton's for scenic vistas). Any comments from people who have actually been to the cities are appreciated. Thank you.

How many days will you be spending in these cities? I like option one because you can see those in depth, and there are beautiful areas near each of those in the country, for example the lake district between Salzburg and Vienna. And you might actually have time to relax. Have been to all those cities.
Also, will you be driving or using the train?

Not knowing the length of your stay i am going to say option one based solely on it being a trip of 14 days or less. I choose option two for the quality of the destinations but at least a 3 week minimum trip.

Agree with James. All depends on your time frame. For a three week vacation definitely Option 2

Hi, If you have the three weeks, then I will say option 2 so as to do justice to the cities, as suggested above. In Vienna I recommend getting out of the tourist areas, Ringstrasse, etc., as well to do the photography...go out to the outlying districts.

YOu're correct Fred. Both the Prague and Vienna historic districts are overly restored. If they guy is interested in period architecture in the raw then Budapest is probably better. But for landscapes, mountains, forests, etc Budapest is probalby the worst base to work from.

I remember seeing some of the historical sights and buidings in Vienna blackened. That was in the '70s. Now "overly" is quite accurate..."overly" sand blasted.
