Itinerary help - 5 nights in Slovenia

Hi everyone. My husband and I will be spending 5 nights in Slovenia in early July. We will arrive via the Trieste Airport and will depart from Ljubljana. We plan to rent a car during the trip. Any thoughts on how to best divide our time? I'd prefer to not spend every night in a different town, and am considering 1-2 nights Ljubljana, 2-3 nights Bled, and maybe a night or two somewhere else (depending on how many nights we decide to spend in Ljubljana and Bled). Here are the places we'd definitely like to see: Ljubljana Lake Bled Lake Bohinj Vrsic Pass Skocjan Caves
Predjama Castle If we have time, we'd also be interested in seeing Logarska Dolina and maybe one of the wine areas. I'd also love to see Piran, but since we'll be visiting Slovenia after a week in Naples and Sorrento, I'm willing to save the Adriatic Coast for another trip. I'd appreciate any help you might have with itinerary planning. Thanks!

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a driver who could pick us up at Trieste airport and take us to Ljubljana?

Hi Stephanie! Fantastic news that you're choosing Slovenia for your holiday. We hope you have a great time in Slovenia! To get to Ljubljana from Trieste, we can recommend GoOpti. They do a lot of work from Venice and Trieste to Slovenia! http://goopti.com/ If you want to hire a car in Ljubljana then ATET are a great local company that have some of the best customer service we have seen anywhere! http://www.atet.si For something different in Ljubljana, maybe stay at the Celica, a former prison with each cell decorated differently. http://www.souhostel.com Or some nice modern apartments perhaps? http://www.apartmentsinljubljana.com You'll probably only need a day to see all the main sights in Ljubljana. The 2nd day you should do Skocjan and Predjama as suggested. There is also Lipica and the beautiful Karst area around Stanjel. Maybe do a circle through Nova Gorica and back to Ljubljana. In Bled we can suggest a cosy apartment at Hisa Sonca http://www.hisa-sonca.eu or a great Tourist Farm at the Dolinar http://www.dolinar-krainer.com Bled will occupy you for a day and Bohinj for another. The third day you could a circle up to Kranjska Gora-Vrsic Pass-Bovec-Kobarid-Most Na Soci and cra train back to Bled. Thats already 5 days :) If you have any spare time, then definitely try to get to Logarska Dolina or the Wine area around Jeruzalem... Hope thats some help

Thanks Greg and Rona for the reply. You had lots of great tips! Our trip is coming together nicely. We'll be arriving at the Trieste Airport at 11am on a Sunday and will fly out of Ljubljana at 10am on Friday. That leaves us with 5 nights and nearly 5 full days in Slovenia. Here's what we're thinking as far as an itinerary: Sunday - transfer from Trieste/Ronchi to Ljubljana. Sightsee and spend the night in Ljubljana. Monday - rent a car. Drive to Skocjan caves and Predjama Castle. Return to Ljubljana or spend the night somewhere between Skocjan and Kobarid. Considering a night in the wine area near Nova Gorica or in Bovec/Kobarid. Tuesday - Drive through the Vrsic Pass to Bled. Spend Tuesday night in Bled. Wednesday - Sightseeing in and around Bled. Maybe a side trip to Lake Bohinj. Overnight in Bled. Thursday - Sightseeing in and around Bled. Maybe a side trip to Logarska Dolina. Overnight in Bled. Friday - Drive from Bled to Ljubljana airport. Does this sound like a reasonable itinerary? We're not sure whether to loop back to Ljubljana after Skocjan/Predjama or to spend the night near Nova Gorica or Kobarid. Thanks for your help!

Hi Steph! That sounds amazing! We recommend doing the Castle\Caves then heading to Goriska Brda wine region for the rest of the day and either spend the night there or maybe in Most Na Soci http://www.apartma-most.com Great apartment above the Soca The rest is spot on. Bled\Bohinj and Logarska, sounds great. There are 2 ways to get to Logarska, through Austria appoaching from west, or through Kamnik approaching from east. Kamnik is longer but less winding roads. Otherwise, its all good!!
