In July I will be traveling from Istanbul or Ankara to Thessaloniki. Is there air travel or a ferry/ship available? I have been to Athens and don't wish to go there again.

The train from Istanbul to Thessaloniki is one possiblity. Another would be to fly (via Athens). I don't believe there are any direct flights.
