Istanbul in August

I'm planning a trip to Istanbul in August but I'm a little worried about the heat. Does anyone have experience visiting then and would you recommend it? Also, how many days do you suggest?

I've been there in the summer (both June and July). It's hot, but not as bad as the southeastern U.S. in August. Don't let the fear of warm temps hold you back. As for the amount of time to spend - that depends. Are you planning to only visit Istanbul or are you planning to see some other areas? There is certainly enough to fill a week. However, you can see the major sites in 4 days.

If you go to "Tours > Turkey & Greece > Istanbul in 7 Days" you will find RS itinerary for that tour as well as "Trip Weather" (?) down on the right hand corner of the page that shows the average temperatures for different months. We spent 2 days there before we took his 14 day Turkey Tour which included another 2 days in Istanbul and then we returned there for another 5 days after the tour was over.
We could have spent more time there. I would certainly return to that city if the time is right sometime in the future.
