I will be staying at the Side Pension in Sultanahmet for the first 6 nights of my 9 night-stay in Istanbul. To experience the varied restaurants/nightlife of the New District, I would like to spend the remaining 3 nights in Beyoglu. For the New District, I was considering Hotel Residence, a few blocks south of Taksim Square. Does anyone have any experience staying at either place? Thank you.

you don't really need to change hotel - taksim sqr is walkable from the old town if you're in relatively good shape - i walked it after dinner every night for a few days. in fact, you should eat around taksim sqr instead of the old town. there is plenty bars to watch soccer or smoke. i like konak's special kabeb (there 2 konaks on the same street, try the old one) and you should stop by inci for desert.
