Istanbul Hotel Recommendations Sought

Looking for accomodations for 2 nights in the Sultanahmet district before the start of our tour, budget about $100-150 per night. The tour hotel is about double our budget. Thanks for any tips.

Are you taking a RS Turkey tour or someone else's? When we took that RS tour we stayed at the Hotel Sutton (sp?) Hill. We found it in RS guide book and the book mentioned that we would receive a discount if we mentioned his book. We did mention his book and they said to show it when checking in. We made our reservations at a reasonable price and when we checked in, they did ask to see our RS guide book which we did show them. Nice place, very nice staff, good breakfast, great location, roof terrace and we will try to stay there again when we ever return to Istanbul. I am not sure when you plan on being there but they may have a minimum number of nights for reservations during summer. i have seen this hotel recommended by numerous folks on this web site before. We spent 2 nights before the tour, 2 nights during the tour, and then returned to Istanbul for 5 days after the tour for a total of 9 days there and we would go back any time.

Thanks for the recommendations. We are going on the RS tour in mid-April. Looks like they're using a different hotel, but I'll check out the ones you generous souls have listed. Thanks so much.

We stayed at the Hotel Sumengen both before and as a part of an RS Tour. I encourage you to check it out. Good luck.

The Hotel Sumengen was where we stayed for the RS Istanbul tour. It was really nice, but there was quite a difference between rooms. We had a double (twin) on the top floor and all the rooms on the top floor looked good. But apparently some of the ones lower down weren't so appealing.

We followed Rick's book and stayed at the Sultan Hill--wonderful and reasonable!

We stayed at Rick's recommended hotel, Sari Konak, in Old Town. Loved it! Rooftop terrace, great breakfast, steps away from the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. Clean, modern, and quiet at night. I did see the Empress Zoe and almost stayed there, but the didn't have availability. FYI it was at the end of a busy street (restaurant row) and that sounds fun but I'd be concerned that it may be noisy. If you go that route ask for a room away from the street... Good luck
