I will be having a very long layover in Istanbul (about 5-6 hours). Is there a place in the airport that safely stores large luggage pieces so that I can do some quick sightseeing in the city?
Yes - there are luggage storage rooms - not lockers - in the arrivals area. They charge per piece, per day. You pay when you retrieve your bags.
Thanks! Much appreciated.
As you clear the secure area in the airport's international terminal, take a right and head toward that end of the terminal. Look for the "Left Baggage" room. The following info is not personally confirmed, and you might want to research: 1) Each piece of luggage needs to have a lock.
2) Cost is around $8/day for regular-size suitcase; $10/day for large suitcase. If you are continuing with a domestic flight, give yourself enough time to transfer terminals after retrieving the suitcase.
Which reminds me of another question. So, I have an early morning flight from Izmir to Istanbul. I plan to leave my luggage at the airport and see some sites. I then have a later afternoon flight to Mykonos by way of Athens. Being that this is a VERY short international flight, do I need to check in two hours before the flight leaves to Mykonos? A friend of mine who grew up in Turkey says one hour is enough. Thoughts?
