Is there somewhere in Instanbul that you can fashionable clothes

I will be in Instanbul in September for 7 days and would love to shop for some clothes, shoes. I will definately wander in the bazaar but find that usually isnt the place to buy ladies clothes as you need to try them on etc. I would also like to buy some very light weight cotton clothes to use while travelling in Turkey and Egypt. Also wondered if you can buy good quality leather jackets in Turkey and if so where. Also would like to ask the same questions about Egypt, Cairo, Luxor and Aswan.
Always love to take something different in the way of clothing and shoes home to Australia from my trips Janderra

the closest comes to mind is taksim sqr, and the avenue walking down.

In RS Istanbul Guide Book, he mentions a very popular shopping street that is in the "asian side" of Istanbul. We took a ferry boat over there several times last May and June and walked down that long shopping street where my wife bought several fine items that she said were a whole lot cheaper than in the US. Sorry I can't remember the name of the street and we have already passed along our RS guide book. He also mentions a shop that sells scarves (sp?) where my wife made several purchases of very fine items. Good luck and you certainly will enjoy Istanbul and Turkey.

I think the street Charlie is referring to must be Istaklal Cadessi. It's loaded with shops, but you should also take the time to admire the art nouveau buildings.

Hi Thank you all for your information. I have read somewhere where locals are more likely to shop in the large shopping centres or malls than in the bazaars.
Does anyone know more about where these shopping centres are

Here's a condensation of what my Cadogan guide has to say about shopping in Istanbul, in addition to Istiklal Caddesi: For Turkish & international designer clothing - Rumeli Caddesi and surrounding streets, Bagdat Caddesi on the asian side Malls - Galleria Mall and Kanyon Mall (www.kanyon.com.tr), Istinye Park For silk and cashmere - Ipek on Istiklal
For leather - Derishow in Nisantasi and on Bagdat, Desa on Istiklal

Hi Thank you for that wonderful advice. Sometimes it takes days to find out the best place to go and then it is time to leave. I will make sure that the suitcase has some room in it, but difficult when travelling for 12 weeks.

For Egypt shopping I would contact the American woman that I used for my guide. She answers a lot of questions on the Egypt Forum of the Frommers and Tripadvisor websites and could help you out with your inquiry. She is based in Cairo, but knows the whole country. Her name is Debbie and her contact information is on her website: www.casualcairodetours.com.

They've gone and moved Istanbul all the way to Egypt? I hate it when that happens.

In Istanbul, I recommend shopping in Ni?anta??. It's a higher-end neighborhood in Istanbul with a wide range of shopping options. I loved Sarar, a Turkish company. They feature nice quality women's clothing. If you are familiar with American brands, it's similar to Ann Taylor or Banana Republic, but a little nicer. I happened to be there during a sale and got a lovely wool coat for about $80US. http://www.sarar.com.tr/en/index.html The website isn't very good, and for some reason, they don't seem to list the Turkish locations. Here's the address: Sarar Rumeli Cad.No:54 Ni?anta?? ?stanbul, Türkiye

In Cairo, I enjoyed shopping at Fair Trade Egypt. They are tied to a NGO and the profits support artisans and women's cooperatives. Fair Trade Egypt is located in the neighborhood of Zamalek. It's on the second or third floor of an office building. Signage is not too good so you will have to look closely for the building. They don't have a lot of clothes. However, it's a good place for jewelry, accessories and other gift items. Items are unique (you won't find them at the bazaars) and high-quality. Prices are very reasonable and I liked not having to bargain. Fair Trade Egypt 27 Yahia Ibrahim St. ,Apartment 3 Zamalek, Cairo, Egypt
