Is it safe to travel to Turkey now?

In light of the recent embassy bombing in Ankara and the car bomb at the Syrian border, is anyone having second thoughts about traveling to Turkey? My husband and I were planning a trip in May but have been starting to question if things are becoming less stable due to the horrible situation in Syria. Any thoughts on this?

Beats me. My daughter-in-law hasn't said anything about moving someplace else. She's there for about a quarter of the year, has been for seven evers.

"In light of the recent mass shootings in Newtown, CT and Aurora, CO, is it safe to visit America now?" Terrorism, like mass shootings, is not predictable; that's what makes it terror. Embassies and borders are more frequent targets than schools and movie theaters, but that's about all one can say. You can be in New York City (thought of as a "more likely target") or in Oklahoma City (thought of as a "less likely target") and still be a victim. I personally wouldn't go anywhere near the Syrian border now, but that still leaves a lot of Turkey to explore.

Hi Jessica, I have been to Turkey and have Turkish friends - and yes, it is safe to travel to Turkey. As someone else said, as safe as it is to travel anywhere in the US where you could end up being shot.
Very few tourists visit the area in Turkey around the Syrian border. So yes, avoid that! But you can visit Istanbul and the sights on the west, south and central areas of Turkey. There is a lot to see in Turkey I hope you and your husband decide to visit and have a wonderful time.

Last week I spent 5 days solo in Istanbul and felt perfectly safe. I wouldn't go to Ankara myself, but the other tourist areas seem good.

Hi Jessica, We are going to Turkey in May as well. To answer your question, where is it safe these days. Nowhere. Didn't a meteor just fall from the sky in Russia? Don't you live in an earthquake zone? My philosophy is you don't get out of life alive so you may as well go and enjoy it.

This is like saying because Christopher Doener was going around killing innocent people and the LAPD. At the same time the LAPD was shooting at innocent people who drives a pickup truck. It is unsafe to visit the Los Angeles area.
