Iraklion Luggage Conundrum

We are disembarking from a cruise ship docking in Iraklion, Crete at 7am one day this summer. We will be taking a flight late in the afternoon that same day to Athens. In the interim, we don't want to be shlepping our luggage around while we spend the day in Crete. Where should we store our luggage that's safe, secure, and reasonably priced? Hotels? Airport locker? Any ideas would be welcome.

When we were there in '08 there was a baggage check kiosk in the airport parking lot where you could drop your bags off and they would hold them for you. As I recall it cost a couple euros per bag.

If I were you I'd get a cab at the ferry terminal and go straight to the airport (it's not far) & drop off your bags. Then you can do what you want the rest of the day without lugging them around.

There's not much to see in Heraklion other than the Minoan ruins at Knossos, just south of the city.

I thought that the Archeological Museum was 100 times better than the ruins at Knossos. There were several exhibits that I spent 10 minutes or more marvelling at; I especially loved a small bull's head. And the ruins are not well marked. So I've go to the museum. So my recommendation would be to take a taxi from the airport to the museum.
