Instanbul Dec 20-25, Hotel recommendations - cheap?

Yea I know that's Christmas. But I have to be in the are for work the week before and figured I would use some air miles and do a cheap 5 day trip.

So not having to spend any money on the flight, any ideas for a clean comfortable place to stay for a single person that wont drain the wallet?

Mike, I've read good reviews on The Apricot Hotel and plan to stay here when I'm lucky enough to make it to Istanbul. They have single rooms and low rates.

I second the Apricot. About half the price of comparable hotels in Sultanhamet. It's not luxury but very comfortable and the staff is terrific with recommendations on eating, sightseeing, etc. Breakfast is in a rooftop lounge with a view over the Sea of Marmara, with real orange juice and coffee. (I only mention that because so many lovely Turkish breakfasts are spoiled by Tang and Nescafe!)Location is steps away from the Blue Mosque.

I'm staying in Istanbul this weekend at the Nena Hotel...I'll let you know how it is next week when I get back. They're charging 63 Euros per night which includes breakfast and transportation to and from the airport.

Be aware that the Apricot Hotel has been sold. I stayed there October 20-23. It is now the Aslan Hotel. Still a very nice, clean, helpful place to stay. I hope it stays that way in the future.

Only part of the Apricot has been sold. The hotel operated out of two buildings. One has been sold and is now the Aslan Hotel. The Apricot is still very much alive and well and doing the same outstanding business at the same rates. You can reach the hotel at reervations@apricothotel.com. Their new web page is apricothotel.com. They are now consolidated to the newer of their two buildings. It is located behind the original Apricot at Amiral Tafdil Sok No. 18. The telephone number is 00 90 212 688 16 58, and the fax number is 00 90 212 458 35 74. Hakan is still managing the hotel with the same gracious hospitality that has made this charming property so popular.I encourage you to make your reservations with the "real" and still very-much-in-business Apricot Hotel.

I just got back from Istanbul on Monday and we stayed three nights at the Hotel Nena. It was wonderful and I highly recommend it. Breakfast was included and was wonderful and with stays longer than three days you get free transportation from the airport too...and it was only 63 Euros per night for a double room. It was a great location and we could see both the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia from the breakfast terrace.

I second the Nena Hotel. Wonderful. Mandi, We must have been there at the same time! Do realize that the off season rates spike up again for Christmas.
