A friend & I are going on a Holocaust study trip and are a very tight budget. I already found a great pension in Prague for a good price, from a site Rick recommended a few years ago. But we are not finding anything in Krakow & Warsaw for under $80 a night. We aren't looking for Western standards, just safe & clean. Please post places you know of. Thanks, JC
We rented an apartment in Krakow last year through www.yourplace.pl. We were very happy with their service and honesty. I see on their website that they have two small apartments available for 42 euro (about $57) per night.
King Hostel is nice and very good price (about 40€ for 2). Rooms share a kitchen for every two (altho this may be only on first floor. Excellent location near tram to center of city, milk bar (for REALLY cheap but great food) nearby
Forgot to say King is in Krakow
As for Warsaw, there is a hostel near Universitat metro stop, called the Blue Hostel or something like it. During the school year it is university dorm but it is bare bones, easy, safe, cheap
Rick has one we stayed in, Fontaine B & B I think, on his site. It was 60E this May.
Check out Mama's hostel in krakow. I have had friends stay there and love it, so I'm heading there next year, they are on many top ten lists as one of the best hostels in europe!! They also have a great location right on the main square. You can get a private twin room for about $65 or stay in one of their cheap dorms. http://www.mamashostel.com.pl/
There is a "hotel" linked to the university in Krakow. I'm sorry, but I don't remember the name. I think it is where the summer school students stay and it makes extra money as a hotel. I was in Krakow last summer and stayed near the castle (Pod Wawel, I think was the name of the hotel), but I don't know the cost (the university paid). While I was there I visited other academics, who stayed at the university's hotel. We couldn't get in, it was booked. I'm sure it was cheaper than my place. You can try the university and see if they can direct you.
