So, I'm helping a friend of my daughters plan a last minute trip to Europe. They are going to Athens & need a hotel/hostel. There are 3 young girls around 20 traveling alone and need an inexpensive hotel centrally located for ease of getting around or possible a hostel. I don't have the Rick Steves Greece guidebook & don't have time to order it, so if you have any recommendations, I would really appreciate it. If you have the Greece guidebook, you can even just give me a list of a few places from there. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I have not personally stayed here, but have heard good things about Athens Backpackers. Here is the website: http://www.backpackers.gr/
Like Katie I've never stayed there but have heard good things. I've walked past it quite regularly and it's in a safe and central area. It gets good reviews on Virtual Tourist http://www.virtualtourist.com/hotels/Europe/Greece/Prefecture_of_Attica/Athens-426812/Hotels_and_Accommodations-Athens-Athens_Backpackers-BR-1.html Alan
We stayed recently at Hotel Nefeli in the Plaka district. We're in our mid-late 60s and felt it was a safe, inexpensive hotel, walking distance from Syntagma metro and all the Athens sites. You can check them at booking.com or at tripadvisor where it gets good ratings.
April Another thought. Have they considered an apartment? Can often be as cheap / cheaper than a hotel for three. And, of course, if money is tight there is the option of eating in. We've used these people who we've found reliable http://www.athensstudios.com/#!One Bdr Apartments/ctzx Alan
Along with Athens Backpackers is the Student & Traveller's Inn. Also, very centrally located near the Plaka and the Monastiraki Metro Station are the Pella Inn, Attalos Hotel, Metropolis Hotel and Plaka Hotel. There are several cheap rooms near Omonia Square but don't be tempted. It's not a safe area at night. www.booking.com is a very good source for inexpensive rooms and you can use their filter system to help you narrow down the choices.
Thanks for all the responses! Now they just have to make a decision. :-)
