What is the easiest way to travel from Rome to Athens? Air? My husband and I are planning 5 weeks travel beginning in Prague and wanting to end in Athens, after Rome.
Do you have a railpass? If so (well, even if not), you can ferry it from bari to patra.
Both Aegean Air (www.aegeanair.com) and Olympic Air (www.olympicairlines.com) offer one-way fares for 53-54 euros (not knowing your travel dates, I used a date of May 15). It's interesting that even though the fares are almost the same on both airlines, Aegean is 67.42 euros with taxes, whereas Olympic is 93.42 euros with taxes. I've never flown Aegean, but I've heard good things about them. We flew Olympic within Greece and they were fine, although I've heard some bad stories about them.
Much much faster and easier, pick up some one way tickets on a cheap airline. Travel from Rome to Athens is at best an all day affair, or should i say overnight, since I recall having to take an overnight ferry from Brindsi, this was along time ago so I may have details wrong.
Cheap flights were not an option then, they are now, take advantage of them, !
