Can anyone suggest the best way to get from Bled to Venice? Will be traveling June 2013 and seem to have be having difficulty with finding the best way to get there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Judi! You can take a transfer using GoOpti, have a look at their site and play around with the dates etc. If you cannot find Bled, its usually under Ljubljana. http://www.goopti.com/index.php?option=com_transfer&lang=en&affid=7 You can also take drd.si from Ljubljana Or from Bled take the train to Nova Gorica (very scenic), then just pop across
the border to Gorizia and take an Italian local train to Venice. We've done it many times, its cheap and easy. Greg
As I am doing the same thing soon. I will share my findings with you in details, I hate it when I ask questions and no one ever answer me in details. So I won't do the same to you. I am doing the train option Greg advised. - Bled > Nova Gorica > Gorizia > Venice Two stations in Lake Bled, Train leaves for Nova Gorica from Bled Jezero. Train timetable can be found here: http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/en/passengers/slovenia Trip journey is 1h45m. To reach Gorizia station from Nova Gorica station walk across Piazza Transalpina (which is the square out side Nova Gorica station and forms the border) and from the bus stop on the next street take bus #1 all the way to Gorizia station. Tickets cost €1.03 and can be bought from a tobacconist at the end of the street. From there you can reach Venice via Regionale trains. Timetable can be found here: http://www.fsitaliane.it/homepage_en.html from: Gorizia Centrale to: Venezia S. Lucia (Venice) Trip journey fastest is 2h16m I was going to take a train back to Ljubljana then follow this:
http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/en/passengers/abroad/destinations/italy But that option is really backtracking in my opinion. Have fun!
btw, according to my findings, you can walk from Nova Gorica train station to Gorizia train station in 30 minutes. So I assume it will take the bus 5-7 minutes.
i did this last year. bled jezero to nova gorica to gorizia. i left bled at like 4:00 am. the station wasnt open at that hour. there were two tracks, i wasnt sure which one the train would be coming in on, and there was no one to ask. luckily, the platform between the two was ground level so i just hopped across when i saw where the train was coming in. the bus in nova gorica is easier to find than i had feared. you just exit and cross the square and there it is. it was actually waiting there when i got there. i arrived at some ridiculous hour - like 5:30 am. the bus doesnt take cash and the tobacco shops where you buy a ticket werent open yet. the bus driver took me for free. thankfully.
