My husband and I are just starting to plan a Amsterdam/Bavaria/Prague/Vienna trip and are trying to figure out how long we want to be in Cesky Krumlov. Is two nights and one full day enough? We definitely want to take the rafting trip to the abbey. We will be on our way to Vienna so any extra time in the Czech Republic comes out of our stay in Austria...we are already only planning on 2 days and 3 nights in Vienna.
Yes, it is enough. The town is very picturesque, hilly, but the center which you want to see is small.
Having been to both Rothenburg ob der Tauber (Bavaria) and Cesky Krumlov I'd say either can be done well with two nights, one day. Rothenburg would be better with three nights two days because frankly I think it has more to offer. We arrived in Cesky Krumlov in the morning and were ready to move on by late afternoon. Throw in the rafting trip (which looked like alot of fun) and you'd be right on target with two nights, one day. I presume you're driving?! We took alot of secondary roads from Vienna to Prague and it took us 8 hours (much lookie looing, picnic lunch). Roads are good and signs easy to follow. Get a good road atlas as there is alot of road work and GPS may not save you (should you be a techie). Many young people speak English in Prague so if you need help with directions zoom in on the younger crowd. Great city. If you can afford it buy tickets on-line to the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Even if you're not a big fan of horses it's a 5-star Vienna experience.
Hi, Brittany. We spent a week (including Christmas) in Krumlov last year. If all you want to do is see the town, yes, 1 day and 2 nights is enough. However, it's a great place to stay longer if you can on another trip -- lots of day trips to surrounding towns, castle ruins, national park areas, etc.
Hi Brittany,
Let me answer you another way. CK is a very nice village and should be visited but Vienna is fantastic so do not reduce your time there to less than three nights. Side note: a nice place to stay in CK is The Old Inn. It is right on the square.
