How is Prague? Would you recommend squeezing in a day there?

We're flying into Paris then down to Venice then Tuscany then Rome over 16 days.

My wife and I just saw a segment on Prague from travel personality Samantha Brown and got very excited about it. Is it as good and as cheap as it sounds? I perceive it would add some "spice" to our France/Italy experience. On the other hand I don't want to be "worn down."

We're thinking of flying discount (SkyEurope.com) from Paris to Prague, staying a full day (two nights), then flying to Venice. The price is cheap.

Is it worth the extra leg? Or would you focus on France/Italy and save Prague for next time? We'd have to steal a day from Rome and Florence or just be more efficient in the trip.

I'm hoping Prague would be cooler in temperature than the other cities of our trip.

I wouldn't bother with it for that short amount of time. It isn't as cheap as it sounds. I would save it for another trip as there is alot to see there and you will need your 16 days to experience Paris and Italy.

If you are adventurous, have the money and are willing to sacrifice the days in Rome/Florence, go for it. Obviously, you will lose some time in traveling - but it is your money and time. Prague is a wonderful city - not all that cheap - but a great one to visit.

There are pros/cons for each option. Taking this extra leg will definitely add to your expenses. Look at this as a sampling with the thought of returning to all these places in the future.

Prague can be cheap, depending on where you stay and eat. Of all the frequently visited large tourist cities in Europe, you can probably see Prague the quickest because it doesn't have too many museums. One full day might be enough time to get a quick overview, but you may find that you'll want to return to see more.

At that time of year, I wouldn't expect Prague to be that much cooler than Paris, but possibly more tolerable than Italy.

I think you might be better off saving Prague for another trip if you're only going to be able to spend a full day there (obviously, this is just my opinion :) Prague is, though crowded, an amazing city. To me, part of the fun of visiting Prague is having the time to wander the streets and observe the culture away from the tourist track. Again, just my taste. Plus, Rome is so amazing that you should keep any extra time for exploring there!

I agree with those who would save Prague for another trip. The time lost from your main itinerary is to great to justify the time you'll actually be visiting in Prague.

I think that Prague combines well with Vienna, and Budapest and some smaller places such as Cesky Krumlov.

I spent 4 days in Prague with my 20 yr old daughter and it was just enough. There is so much to see and it is beautiful. If you like classical music the concerts there can be as good as in Vienna and Salzburg and easier to get seats for. The restaurants are a little cheaper than other big european cities but places to stay are just as expensive. The people are nice but you would be wasting your time traveling all that way for just one day. I would enjoy Paris and Italy this time and do Prague for at least 3 days and nights next time. Vienna Salzburg and Munich are all easy to do in a trip with Prague without wasting alot of travel time. There are also some fun day trips to do from Prague. Happy travels. The food there is also really good.

We were in Prague in early October and it was sunny with crisp fall weather. I don't know what the weather is like in July. It is a fun city, but it does sound like you might be spending a lot of time traveling for such a short time there. We have also been in Italy in July and it can be very warm. We enjoyed our time on the coast and in the countryside more than our time in the big cities during that time of year.
