How do you get to Croatia from Greece? Help!

We're going next May -- flying into Athens and out of Dubrovnik. It appears there are no direct flights or ferries. Has anyone done this? I'm beginning to think it's going to be a big problem, even though the countries are so close...

I looked into this several years ago, and things do change, but yes it is more difficult than it seems it should be. Problems are several: Croatia is not an EU country, so transportation connections and budget airlines are limited. Albania and Macedonia that sit between the two countries, have, in the past, been rather risky to travel in, again limiting travel options. Add in that both are vacation destinations and compete for travellers, and you get not alot of travel between them. At the time, there were two options: Ferry from Patras, Greece to Bari, Italy, then ferry to Croatia. Budget flight from Athens to somewhere (Rome, Germany, heck it may even be cheaper to go through London!) then fly to Croatia on one of the few budget airlines. You could also do a hybrid type of thing (Athens to Venice by air, Ferry to Croatia)

If you have the time, do it by ferry even though you have to go to Bari (it has a nice, small, easily visited old town, but not well known), but since you are going in May, make sure the ferries are running. The Adriatic is beautiful.
