If you can't find a ferry or ship try the Filia Express overnight train from Istanbul to Thessaloniki then take the bus or train to Athens.

There is no ferry from Istanbul to Athens. You'd have to make your way to the nearest Turkish port with ferries to a nearby Greek island first. I think that would be Ayvalik/Lesvos.
