I'd appreciate any suggestions on where to stay in Konya.
The Hotel Balikcilar is nothing outstanding, but it is directly across the street from the Mevlana Mausoleum, so the location cannot be topped. The furnishings are pretty dated and the breakfast is adequate but not special. Plusses are that the staff speaks English, that the hotel caters to foreign tourists as well as Turks on business or pilgrmiages, there's free parking in front of the hotel, and, of course, the location--an easy walk to anyhwere you want to be in Konya.
Konya is flat out crazy to drive in--no street signs anywhere, so maps are close to useless. We got to the hotel by pulling over and asking passersby for the "mevlana muse", knowing the hotel was only steps from the museum.
