Could someone suggest a nice not to expensive hotel in the Plaka area in Athens. We have been before and we are looking for something clean and comfortable.
One man's room rate is another man's mortgage payment. Please state your maximum daily room budget in euro.
Yes you are right. Between 100 and 200 euros
We stayed at the Hotel Plaka, the one and only time we have been to Athens. It has a roof top terrace (but so do they all), we walked from there to the Acropolis, restaurants abound very close by and it falls within your budget. Check it out.
Check the Pan, Arethusa, Amazon, Metropolis, Athos, Cecil, Attalos, Acropolis View, Tempi, Hermes and Omiros Hotels. These are the closest to the Plaka in that price range.
the acropolis museum boutique hotel was very nice. within easy walking distance of plaka and acropolis.
We booked Hotel Attalos on Lee's suggestion several ays ago for the inbound and outbound portion of our trip. Looks nice and is in a great spot. E94/night.
Also.. don't know when you're traveling. But, be advised, things are filling up fast for late spring and summer now. If that is when you're going, don't dally.
The handiest new discovery I've made is the Airotel Parthenon... it's just off the pedestrianized walkway South of the Acropolis.. it is just 100 yards from the New Acropolis Museum... even handier than Athens Gate Hotel. And you can get a room for 100€, even less through booking.com.
BTW, just curious, why do so many Americans inquiring about Athens rooms stress CLEAN. I'm on lots of forums about Rome, Paris, London, etc and people never seem to use that adjective. Do Americans consider Greece a 3rd world country?? I would ask people who are posting about hotels to stop and recall whether they inquire about cleanliness when seeking hotels in other European Capitals. Just a thought.
We stayed in hotel Electra. If I remember correctly the price was about 140 Euro. Very nice spacey room, roof terrace with view of Acropolis. One of the best hotels we stayed in our travels.
Itja, that must have been some time ago, or in the winter if recent ... I think Electra Palace, since Rick started plugging it on his videos so long ago, has escalated up to about €250. It does have a pool I think, and a roof terrace, though you have to buy drinks to use the latter.
Janet, we stayed in Electra in November 2007.
